The Design Classroom Layout
The Tool Board
Installing a proper tool board protects your valuable tools and keeps them organized. It also makes it easier to spot a missing tool at the end of a lesson.

What can go on the wall?
The design cycle and IB learner profiles are displayed on the wall. It reminds me to make constant mention of them and it helps students to refer to them.
I also make an example portfolio which is displayed on the wall. This is placed next to the design cycle so that students can see how everything fits in context.
For each unit taught in the class, I make a product to display with a unit poster. The poster shows the name of the unit and the unit question. I think it is good to trigger a student's creativeness by showing them possibilities.

The Recycle Center
The class has its own recycle center, where students and teachers are welcome to contribute. Some units require students to build using recycled material. They are encouraged to find their own material and if they want to use material from the center, they need to trade to get the material. It’s important that students get in the habit of looking for garbage that’s reusable. They learn that recycling alone is not enough to lessen the negative impact on the environment.

Differentiation
The class has a spin board which can be spun when students need a challenge. The 10 learner profiles were grouped in 6 groups. For each group, an activity related to the unit is planned. This includes doing a small research project, teaching classmates an interesting fact or skill, assisting classmates in need, reflecting, trying a new drawing skill such as isometric, oblique, perspective, etc.
